Overview
These Terms govern your use of Koan. By registering for and using Koan, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Koan. These Terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Community Standards.

Who can use Koan
Koan is currently in private beta, accessible by invitation only. You must be 18 or older to use Koan. You must register with your real name and a valid email address. You may not create more than one account. You may not create an account on behalf of another person.
Your content
You are responsible for everything you post on Koan. By posting content on Koan, you confirm that you have the right to post it, that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that it does not violate the rights of any third party.
You retain ownership of your content. By posting on Koan, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to display and store your content for the purpose of operating the platform. We do not claim ownership of your content and will not use it for any commercial purpose.
Content you post is subject to our Community Standards. Content that violates those standards may be removed, and your account may be suspended or terminated.
Posts you delete are removed from public view but a record is retained. This is a deliberate design decision — it prevents the erasure of content that others have replied to and supports our moderation functions. Replies to deleted posts remain visible but are closed to further replies.
Our intellectual property
The Koan name, design, and software are our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of Koan without our permission.
What you may not do
You may not use Koan to commit or facilitate a crime. You may not use Koan to harass, threaten, or harm any person. You may not post false or misleading information. You may not impersonate another person. You may not attempt to circumvent any technical measure we have put in place. You may not scrape, harvest, or otherwise extract data from Koan. You may not use automated accounts or bots.
Moderation and enforcement
We operate a moderation system. Moderators may dismiss reports, warn users, remove content, suspend accounts, or escalate reports for senior review. Significant moderation actions are accompanied by notifications explaining the action taken. Repeated or serious violations may result in permanent suspension.
We act in good faith in all moderation decisions. If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, contact us at hello@koan.social.
Disclaimer
Koan is provided on an "as is" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the platform. We are not responsible for the content posted by users. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the platform at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Koan's liability to you arising from your use of the platform is limited to direct damages actually incurred. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be referred to mediation and, if necessary, arbitration under the LCIA Rules, seated in London, in the English language.
Changes to these Terms
We will post notice of any material changes. Continued use of Koan after a change is posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
